Professor Tracey Booth is UTS's Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law. Professor Booth is a leading international scholar whose work explores public confidence in legal processes.
As Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Booth's key responsibilities are to:
- lead the academic development of and the pursuit of excellence by the Faculty in learning and teaching, research, engagement and the student experience
- ensure a culture of excellence, collegiality and highest performance standards across the Faculty
- ensure the ongoing development of innovative and relevant courses - nationally and internationally - at all levels, with sector leadership in graduate workplace reputation and graduate success
- provide academic leadership by representing the Faculty and by promoting scholarship, learning and teaching and research in its disciplines/fields in the university and externally, including coordinating links with the community, government, industry and the professions
- take the lead in forging cross-Faculty partnerships and innovative new course offerings and trans-disciplinary subjects which are sought after by government, not-for-profit, industry and the professions.
Professor Booth's research is inter-disciplinary and crosses a range of fields, including criminology, psychology, sociology and law. She is an expert on victim impact statements, victims of crime in legal processes, the impact of emotion on courtroom proceeding and judicial emotion. Professor Booth is well-known for her legal ethnographic approach that seeks to build on theory and legal doctrine with empirical insights to create an evidence base for the development of policy and law reform.
Professor Booth has led the development and renewal of research training in undergraduate, postgraduate and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) programs in the UTS Law Faculty. Before taking on the role of Acting Dean, she was Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Law from September 2022. She holds a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Jurisprudence from the University of New South Wales.
