Have your say in the national Racism@Uni Study

UTS students will soon be invited to take part in the national Racism@Uni Survey, led by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

You can expect an email from us, on behalf of the AHRC, inviting you to share your experience and/or perspective on racism in university contexts – whether on campus or in online university environments.

The survey is a key part of a national effort to make universities safer and more inclusive for everyone.

This initiative responds to Recommendation 33 of the Australian Universities Accord Final Report, and aims to build a clear picture of racism in higher education – from individual experiences to systemic issues.

Everyone's voice matters

Whether you’ve personally experienced racism or seen it happen to someone else, your input will help create change.

The survey is open to all students, but particularly seeks input from:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Jewish communities
  • Muslim communities
  • Palestinian communities
  • Middle Eastern communities
  • African communities
  • South, Southeast, and East Asian communities
  • Pasifika communities
  • International student communities

What to expect

The survey is:

  • Anonymous and confidential.
  • Conducted by POLIS: Centre for Social Policy Research at the Australian National University on behalf of the Australian Human Rights Commission.
  • Part of a broader project that includes focus groups, a literature review and a policy audit.

You’ll receive an email to your UTS inbox with a unique link to the survey once it launches, followed by reminders over the four weeks that the survey is open.

If you're both a staff member and a student, or if you are also a student or staff member at another university, you may receive multiple emails – but you only need to complete the survey once.

While UTS supports the aims of the survey and encourages staff and students to take part, participation is entirely voluntary.
